First Win for Menari Sister

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 16

A homebred for Corumbene Stud, flashy chestnut filly Deniki is a three-quarter sister by Not a Single Doubt to former brilliant three year-old Menari and showed a glimpse of his ability when scoring a tenacious win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Trained by Mark Newnham, Deniki was second and fifth at her first two runs earlier this year and resumed from a spell in the 1100m maiden starting favourite.

She crossed to lead on the fence for Tommy Berry and when challenged by $1.7million colt Osamu in the concluding stages gave it everything she had to score a short head win with two lengths back to the third horse.

Not a Single Doubt is the sire of Deniki

Deniki is the fourth winner from five to race from stakes-winning General Nediym mare Isurava a full sister to Group II winner Ichihara and stakes-winner Au Chocolat.

Her best offspring is Group II ATC Run to the Rose winner Menari, whose stud career at Newgate Farm has unfortunately been hampered by poor fertility with his first small crop of now yearlings featuring just 21 foals.

Isurava has a yearling filly by Menari’s sire Snitzel and has foaled again to the champion sire this spring producing another filly.
