It was only a midweek June two year-old fillies event at Sandown, but the winner Parlophone looks like she has a lot more to offer.
Trained by Mick Price and Mick Kent Jr, Parlophone was last seen finishing second to subsequent Blue Diamond place-getter Personal at Flemington on January 18, following a disastrous debut when she bucked and was beaten 20 lengths.
She managed to behave herself this time for Damien Oliver, who allowed her to find her feet from a wide barrier settling well back in the field.
Parlophone hit top gear late, overpowering last start winner Peggy Selene to win the 1000 netyre scamper by a short head.
“For a midweek race in June it was a very strong field I thought,” said Mick Kent Jr.
“She’s still got plenty of improvement as she’s still a bit dull in the coat. At this time of year it would be good to get her rating up a bit and then look at Black type races in the spring.”
Retained to race by her breeders, Parlophone is a sibling to Group III winner Sun City and Group II placed Spin being the fourth winner from four foals to race from stakes-winning Flying Spur mare Roulettes.
Roulettes has a yearling colt by Deep Field that was sold at Magic Millions this year for $800,000 to Alan Bell.
Parlophone is the 19th two year-old winner this season for I Am Invincible, who stands at Yarraman Park at a fee of $209,000.
