Black Type Next for Fastnet Filly

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 15

The Mark Newnham trained Fastnet Rock filly Panna Cotta returned from a lengthy spell to score a stylish victory at Randwick on Wednesday.

A homebred for Segenhoe Stud, the two year-old was fourth on debut last November in the $127,000 Max Lees Classic at Newcastle and has been on the sidelines since.

Tuned up with two recent trials, both of which she won, Panna Cotta was ready to fire and came with a well timed run to score a long head win in the 1100 metre fillies maiden.

“She’s shown us good ability from day one,” said Mark Newnham.

“She had two really good trials coming into this and Josh (Parr) have her a great ride.

Fastnet Rock is the sire of Panna Cotta“We’ll look at a Listed race for her next, the Woodlands Stakes that is normally at Scone, but will be at Rosehill this year.”

Panna Cotta is a full sister to Group III winner Serene Majesty and half-sister to stakes-winner Curdled and stakes-placed Brulee being the fourth winner from five to race from stakes-winning Lonhro mare Custard.

Custard has a weanling filly by I Am Invincible and was covered last spring by Trapeze Artist.

Panna Cotta is the seventh two year-old winner this season for champion sire Fastnet Rock.
