Brilliant Stakes Win for $1.1 Million Colt

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 4

Arrowfield Stud’s now retired Not a Single Doubt continued his stellar season adding another impressive juvenile stakes-winner to his tally when expensive colt Doubtland justified his price tag with a commanding four length victory in the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) on the first day of The Championships at Randwick.

Trained by Team Hawkes, Doubtland made his debut at the start of last month with an easy maiden win at Randwick and handled the rise to stakes company with ease.

He settled back in the field for Brenton Avdulla and unleashed a powerful finish when angled into the clear to run right away and win as he pleased keeping his record at a perfect two for two with earnings just shy of $150,000.

“I was quietly confident on him going to the gates,” said Brenton Avdulla.

“He did things a lot better today that his first start. He’s a quality colt and I’m sure he has a really bright future.”

Doubtland was a $1.1million Inglis Easter yearlingThe Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes was won last year by Bivouac, who has gone on to win multiple Group I races at three and connections will be hoping Doubtland can achieve similar success next season.

Doubtland was bought for $1.1million from the Arrowfield draft at Inglis Easter by Orbis Bloodstock and is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to Group II winner Villa Verde and a full brother to stakes-winner Pretty Fast.

He is the third foal to race and third winner from Group III placed Ustinov mare Miss Sharapova, who won up to 2100 metres and was fourth in a New Zealand Oaks, so Doubtland could easily develop into a Guineas type colt next season.

Doubtland was the most expensive yearling by his sire sold in 2019 and his extended pedigree also features two Golden Slipper winners in Ha Ha and Rory’s Jester as well as Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed.

Miss Sharapova has a yearling filly by Shalaa (IRE), a weanling colt by Snizel and was covered last spring by Dundeel after missing to Not a Single Doubt.

Doubtland is the 71st stakes-winner for Not a Single Doubt, who has some sensational yearlings to be offered at Inglis Easter next week and you can see them here.
