One to Watch – Rosehill Trials

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 18
Of the eight trials run at Rosehill on Friday morning this promising three year-old Pierro colt was the fastest winner.

Hong Qigong as a yearlingPrepared by Team Hawkes for Sun Bloodstock, Hong Qigong was having his first trial back following an initial campaign that saw him finish a short half head second to subsequent Group l place-getter Pierata on debut at Randwick.

At his second outing, Hong Qigong was luckless when caught deep and still found the line as best he could to finish a well beaten sixth and was sent straight to the paddock.

A stronger horse this time around, Hong Qigong jumped well for Jay Ford before being eased to take a sit behind the leaders and surged to the line when shown clear running to win under a hold by a long head in 53:80 seconds.

All Too Hard and Your Song have had a quick start to the new season with a flurry of winners, but we're tipping Hong Qigong can tip the scales in Pierro's favour when he returns to race day competition.

A $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Highgrove Stud draft for Sun Bloodstock, Hong Qigong is a half-brother to stakes-winner Interspersed from good producer Scattered, a half-sister to Group I winner Wanted.
