Former
Coolmore shuttler Declaration of War (USA) will have his first Australian two
year-old runners this spring and the son of War Front sired his second
stakes-winner overnight in the UK with a victory in the Listed Newbury St Hugh's
Stakes for Eirene.
The Dean Ivory-trained filly forged clear in the closing stages to win the five
furlong scamper by a length and three-quarters in the colours of Michael
Yarrow.
Robert Winston was in the saddle and reported after the race, "She has always
been very highly thought of. Today was obviously a chance to prove herself in
Listed company. I think the long-term goal for her could be the G1 Cheveley
Park Stakes. She will get six furlongs when it's not so soft.
"She is one of Dean's best two-year-olds. She was very highly thought of early
in the season and she is starting to prove that now."
Eirene has had two wins and two placings from four starts and is from
stakes-placed Za Za Zoom, a half-sister to Group II winner Genki.
Declaration of War shuttled to Australia for two seasons and has 80 odd two
year olds to run for him in 2017/2018.
He was switched to Kentucky on his return to the Northern Hemisphere after standing
first in Ireland and stood at Ashford Stud earlier this year for Coolmore at a
fee of $US35,000.
