The
powerful Darren Weir stable is not frightened to travel and unleashes promising
winners all over Victoria with a debut victory at Mildura on Friday for a short
priced daughter of in-form sire Star Witness.
Hot Witness was a hot favourite in the 1000 metre maiden and defeated older
rivals to win by the best part of a length.
A $140,000 Magic Millions purchase for Darren Weir/ John Foote Bloodstock from
the Widden Stud draft, Hot Witness is a half-sister to stakes-placed Hot
Snippety and is the fourth winner from Desert Symphony.
Hot Witness is the 15th winners this season for Star Witness, who
posted a double at Gosford on Thursday with four year-old mares Never Out and
Pindara.
Star Witness stands at a fee of $33,000 at Widden Stud this spring and is in
keen demand again this year after covering an impressive 220 mares last spring.
