Tom Magnier has acquired a good number of high class racemares in recent years to add to the stellar broodmare band at Coolmore Australia and one of them was $1.3million Magic Millions National Broodmare purchase Invincibella, whose first foal became a winner at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Three year-old Justify (USA) filly Mergeila has been given time to mature by her champion trainer Chris Waller, who also prepared Invincibella to win 12 races and $3million in prizemoney with a career highlight win in the Group I Tatts Tiara.
Mergeila finished an encouraging third on debut at Rosehill back in July behind quality colt Mayfair before heading for a short break and was tuned up for her return with a recent trial.
She travelled well for James McDonald and when urged through a gap close to home was able to kick away and win the 1250m maiden by more than a length.
A $750,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Yulong from the Coolmore draft, Mergeila looks to have a bright future and has gottten her dam off to the perfect start to her stud career.
Invincibella produced a colt by Wootton Bassett (GB) that sold at Magic Millions this year for $625,000 to Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock and she has a filly to follow by Snitzel.
Invincibella missed to Justify last spring and has been sent to the US this year to be covered by the Triple Crown winner again in Kentucky.
