Trainer Mark Newnham is hoping to capitalise on Pierro's recent momentum at stud with promising juvenile Canyonero at Randwick on Saturday.
Canyonero, most likely named in honour of the trademark sports utility vehicle in The Simpsons,is an equal second favourite at $6 to win the TAB Handicap (1200m), following an excellent third on debut in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) last month.
"He's trained on really well since his run the other day," Newnham said.
"He went into his first run off only one trial so I'd be confident that he's improved. And it looks like 1200m will suit him.
"I'm happy that they've moved the meeting to Randwick as well because he gets to run on his home track as he did last time."
Canyonero's sire Pierro has excelled in the first half of his second season, producing six stakes winners (one in South Africa) including exciting colt Pierata, now a commanding favourite for Saturday week's Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.
While Canyonero won't be racing for black type on Saturday, Newnham is already planning for it.
"If he was able to win on Saturday I'd probably give him a little break and then aim up for the autumn," Newnham said.
"Even though he won $49,000 the other day, none of it counts towards getting in anything because it was an Inglis race. So it would be nice to have some money in the bank before the autumn."
