G3 Hawkesbury Crown Winner Headed to MM National

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 30

Six year-old Snitzel mare Exotic Ruby will head to the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale next month as a valuable Group III winning daughter of champion sire Snitzel after taking out the $175,000 Group III Hawkesbury Crown (1300m) on Saturday.

Trained by Bjorn Baker, Exotic Ruby has been a very consistent performer in metropolitan company, but had not tasted Black Type success until today.

With Rachel King on board, she came with a well timed run to score a long neck win taking her overall record to five wins and 12 placings from 26 starts with prizemoney topping $320,000.

Exotic Ruby has had three trainers and was originally a $260,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase, but she joined the Bjorn Baker stable after she was purchased by Bjorn Baker Racing / Clarke Bloodstock for $105,000 at the 2020 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale as a racemare.

“Jim Clarke bought her for $105,000 and we thought she could win a midweek race and she’s just kept improving,” said Bjorn Baker.

“She’s going better than ever. She was rock hard fit and that counts for a lot today. She;s got a great pedigree and I can’t wait for her foals!”

Exotic Ruby will be offered by Attunga Stud as agent as Lot 721.

Bred by Luskin Park, Aston Bloodstock and partners, Exotic Ruby is the best of three winners from Group II placed Street Cry (IRE) mare Oriental Ruby, a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Dancefloor Doll from the family of current Group III winner Le Lude.

Oriental Ruby is now with Yulong after they purchased her for $65,000 from the Luskin Park Dispersal in 2020 and she had a filly by Alabama Express last spring and is now in foal to Written Tycoon.

Exotic Ruby is the 121st stakes-winner for champion sire Snitzel, who stands at Arrowfield at a fee of $220,000 this spring and had a stakes double at Hawkesbury with Mr Mozart taking out the Group III Hawkesbury Guineas.
