Metro Success for The Autumn Sun Siblings

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 12

Racing at Canterbury and Moonee Valley last night delivered metropolitan success for two siblings to Champion 3YO The Autumn Sun with three year-old colt Field Legend saluting in Sydney and four year-old gelding The Awesome Son getting the cash in Melbourne.

Trained by Chris Waller, as was his champion three-quarter brother The Autumn Sun, Snitzel colt Field Legend won the 1550m maiden by a length and a quarter at his third start.

Withdrawn from Inglis Easter by Arrowfield and sold privately to Bon Ho, Field Legend is the fourth winner from four foals to race from star producing Galileo mare Azmiyna (IRE).

Field Legend is a full brother to Archanna, who sold for $1.3million as an Inglis Easter yearling and then after winning three races and over $190,000 she was re-sold through Inglis Digital this year with Arrowfield Stud buying her for $900,000.

The Awesome Son was the subject of a Breednet story when the son of Not a Single Doubt broke his maiden at Moe back in August and he continued his progress winning the Benchmark 70 event over 2040m at Moonee Valley by nearly two lengths.

He came from last and looped the field in an eye-catching performance.

A name change, a gelding operation, and a fourth trainer, seems to have done the trick for The Awesome Son, a $900,000 three-quarter brother to five -time Group I winner The Autumn Sun.

Purchased by Aquis Farm for that princely amount at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, The Awesome Son tested the patience of Chris Waller, Annabel Neasham, and Kacy Fogden before finding a home with Julius Sandhu.

Then named Foscolo, he barrier trialled eight times without making a start.

Entered for the 2021 Inglis April (Late) Online Sale, Foscolo was bought by the Lofty Thoroughbred Group for $32,500.

Sporting a new name and sent to  Julius Sandhu, The Awesome Son has found some form with two wins from seven starts  yielding some $60,000 and change in prizemoney with this victory indicating his future may well lie in longer races.

Field Legend is the last Australian foal bred from Azmiyna, who has since been exported to the Northern Hemisphere and produced a filly by Deep Impact in 2020.
