Probabeel - She's a Winner

Mark Smith - Saturday August 28

Class told in Saturday’s Group III WW Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield when triple Group 1 winner Probabeel made a winning seasonal debut.

Ridden by Damian Lane, the 5yo daughter of Savabeel finished resolutely to defeat Chassis (Al Maher) by a short-neck with Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt) a neck back in third.

Trained by Jamie Richards for Cambridge Stud’s Brendan and Jo Lindsay, Probabeel advances her record to eleven wins, and seven seconds from 24 starts with earnings of $3,229,978.

“It was a brilliant ride from Damian from the outside barrier,” stable representative Brad Taylor said.

“He got her into a nice position. She was flat there turning but she’s got a real will to win. She put her head out on the line and was very good.

“I thought, having a good look at her in the yard today, she looked very good. Very similar to what she was first-up last time.

“Jamie said she was in similar fettle. The coat is not as good coming out of the New Zealand winter, but she presented well and there’s nice improvement there with bigger things to come.

“Having spoken to Jamie this morning, she’ll head to the (Group 1) Sir Rupert Clark. He’s very hopeful that Behemoth can win and to just keep her weight down a little bit. Obviously, she’ll get a couple of points from today.

“I think he’s been speaking to the handicapper and said she would’ve (had) 57 in that. She would be well-rated in a race like that and being 116, she’ll probably go to 118 and get an extra kilo.”

Probabeel a $380,000 Karaka yearling

Probabeel was purchased by David Ellis for $380,000 out of the Waikato Stud draft at the 2018 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale.

She is the only foal of the stakes-placed Pins mare Far Fetched who died at the age of seven in 2017.

Far Fetched was a three-quarter sister to Group II MRC Thousand Guineas Prelude and Group III Manfred Stakes winner Legless Veuve and the Group III MRC Mannerism Stakes winner and Group 1 WRC Telegraph Hcp runner-up Tootsie.
