Hinchinbrook Filly Wins G3 Alexandra Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 19

Bred and sold by Rosemont Stud, three year-old Hinchinbrook filly Chica Fuerte won the Group III MRC Ethereal Stakes (2000m) back in the spring and found top form at Moonee Valley on Friday night to take out the Group III MVRC Alexandra Stakes (1600m).

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman and ridden by Mark Zahra, Chica Fuerte took up the lead and was strong to the line scoring a three-quarter length win over Love Sensation.

The victory took her overall record to three wins and five placings from 10 starts with prizemoney in excess of $348,000.

“Once she got to the front she was always going to be hard to beat,” said stable representative Steve Adams.

“She’ll go to Adelaide now for either the Port Adelaide Guineas or Auraria Stakes on her way to the Australasian Oaks (G1), which is her pet distance of 2000m.”

Chica Fuerte, a two time Group III winner!

A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Rosemont Stud draft for Bahen Bloodstock, Chica Fuerte is the best of two winners from imported Rock Hard Ten mare Guapa (USA), an unraced daughter of Group II winner Last Approach from a North American family that has had success here in the past, notably through Group I winners Assertive Lad, Assertive Lass and Reset.

Guapa has a yearling colt by Hellbent, a weanling filly by Magnus and was covered last spring by I Am Immortal.

Chica Fuerte is one of 21 stakes-winners by Yarraman Park’s much missed sire Hinchinbrook.
