Golden Slipper winning sire Vancouver added a new metropolitan winner to his tally at Moonee Valley on Friday night when Captain Canuck shook off maiden status in the first event of the night.
Second and third at his previous two starts in country Victoria, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained colt enjoyed stepping up to 1600m to score a cavalier length and a half win.
Allowed to roll forward by John Allen from an inside draw, he cruised home to win in good style at his fifth start.
Captain Canuck was bought from Karaka Book 1 by Ciaron Maher Racing from the Henley Park draft and runs for a syndicate that includes Raffles Racing in whose colours he runs.
He was a successful pinhook having been sourced from the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale where he made $75,000 when offered by Erinvale Thoroughbreds.
Captain Canuck is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Miss Fidler, a half-sister by Royal Academy (USA) to Group I winner Hurtle Myrtle, the dam of current season Group III winning 3YO Holyfield.
Medaglia D’Oro’s Group I winning son Vancouver stands at Coolmore at a fee of $30,250.
