I Am Invincible took the lead for the number of stakes winners this season to date when the progressive three-year-old filly La Mexicana capped a memorable Cox Plate day for Jamie Kah in the Listed Ladbrokes Crockett Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained filly completed a 4-timer for Kah with a fighting short-half-head victory over the Helmet filly Twain's Express with a further two and a half lengths back to the Street Boss (USA) filly in Highly Discreet in third.
It advances La Mexicana's record to three wins and a third from four starts with earnings of $164,845.
"She's a tricky filly this girl. She has a lot of talent, is a bit hard to manage but the team has done a good job tweaking her gear, and they have got her absolutely flying," Kah enthused.
"I felt like Motty (Jamie Mott on Twain's Express) had us covered 100 out, but this filly was just too tough. She is a temperamental little thing and didn't want to get beaten.
"It’s been an amazing day. I am humbled to have been given these opportunities. It would have been great to have a crowd here, and I could have really celebrated. Nevertheless, I am appreciative of everybody.”
Purchased by Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) for $320,000 out of the Lime Country draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, La Mexicana is the second winner from as many foals out of the stakes-winning Domesday mare Cailin Miss.
From the family of Victoria Derby and South Australia Derby winner Brewery Boy and Doncaster Handicap winner Lygon Arms, Cailin Miss was purchased for $200,000 by Makybe Racing & Breeding at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when carrying the Snitzel filly Qiji Melody, a winner in New Zealand.
Cailin Miss has a yearling colt by All Too Hard and foaled a Russian Revolution filly on August 11.
La Mexicana becomes the 59th stakes-winner for I Am Invincible and his seventh this season.
