Snitzel's Wild Ruler Dominant in the Roman Consul

Mark Smith - Saturday October 10

A son of Snitzel and carrying the China Horse Club colours, Wild Ruler bears an uncanny resemblance to the 2016 Group II Roman Consul Stakes winner Russian Revolution and Wild Ruler has a Group 1 in his sights following his bloodless victory in the $300,000 feature at Randwick on Saturday.

Where are they? Wild Ruler in a breeze (Steve Hart)

Ridden by James McDonald, the handsome, Peter and Paul Snowden-trained, colt downed the I Am Invincible colt  On The Lead by two lengths with the Not A Single Doubt colt Doubtland a length back in third.

With one slot left in next weeks The Everest, the inevitable question was would connections be interested in backing up

“My guys will talk to their guys and we will sort it out I suppose but this is what it is about today, a Group II is nothing to sneeze at and he has it on his resume now,” Paul Snowden said.

“We will look at our options but it’s hard to tell. Younger horses have performed well of late (in the Everest), it’s food for thought.

uo;With a bit more natural tempo, he can certainly relax and be ten to twenty per cent better. He’s still learning how to develop and how to settle in his races.

“I think it’s probably another six to twelve months away off the ultimate sort of performance.”

Purchased by China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock / WinStar for $525,000 out of the Kia Ora Stud draft at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Wild Ruler made an exciting career debut when winning the $500,000 Inglis Nursery at Randwick back in December last year.

Third in the Group II Champagne Classic at Eagle Farm, Wild Ruler made a winning 3yo debut in the Listed Heritage Stakes at Rosehill on September 26.

Wild Ruler was a $525,000 Easter yearling

The 3yo son of Snitzel advances his record to 3 wins a second and a third from 6 starts with earnings of $594,225.

Wild Ruler is the third foal and second winner out of the smart racemare Gypsy Robin (USA) whose second foal Uluru (Fastnet Rock).

Her first foal Caravan, a sister to Wild Ruler, placed in three of her four starts after being purchased at the Inglis July Monthly Online Sale for $35,000.

An imported daughter of the Awesome Again stallion Daaher, Gypsy Robin (USA) won six races from 12 starts in the States including a pair of Grade II Stakes and was runner-up in the Grade 1 Test Stakes at Saratoga.

Gypsy Robin (USA) has a yearling filly by American Pharoah (USA) and is due to foal to the Triple Crown hero again.
