Subpoenaed Too Strong in Golden Pendant

Mark Smith - Saturday September 26

The Chris Waller-trained Subpoenaed had little luck when sixth behind Haut Brion Her at her most recent start in the Group II Sheroco Stakes but she left that mare in her wake in Saturday’s Group II Kia Golden Pendant at Rosehill.

A well-deserved maiden stakes win for Subpoenaed (Steve Hart)

Completing a profitable day for Tommy Berry, the 4yo daughter of Rip Van Winkle (IRE) charged to the lead at the 200m then held off the chasing pack to win by one and a quarter lengths from Emeralds (Sebring) with Jen’s Rules (Redoute’s Choice) a long-head back in third.

Purchased privately after making a winning debut at Te Rapa in April last year when trained by Tony Pike, Subpoenaed advances her record to 4 wins, 3 seconds and 1 third from 15 starts with earnings of $422,652.

She is out of the very talented O’Reilly mare Notice Received, a 5-time Melbourne winner, who was a $52,000 purchase at the 2014 Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale.

ce Received has a 2yo Not A Single Doubt filly which failed to make her $250,000 reserve at this years Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

After foaling an Almanzor (FR) colt last spring, Notice Received was covered by the son of Wooten Basket again last year.

Subpoenaed becomes the 52nd stakes-winner for Galileo’s triple Group 1 winner Rip Van Winkle (IRE) who sadly died last month at Windsor Park Stud following a short illness.
