One to Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 10

The full brother to Group II winner Reelem in Ruby opened his account with a tenacious win at Hawkesbury on Thursday as a hot favourite.

Trained by Mark Newnham, three year-old Pierro colt Bob is a more dour sort than his speedy sister, but has talent in the staying department judging by this hard fought win.

Stepping out to 1800m at his third start, Bob relished the longer trip, sticking to his guns at the finish to score a short neck win over his older rival Overthink with seven lengths back to the third horse.

A $115,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase from the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft for James Harron Bloodstock, Bob runs for Greg and Donna Kolivos, who raced his sire Pierro.

Bob is the third winner from Bobine (USA) a half-sister by Giant’s Causeway to Group I winner Possibly Perfect and to the dams of Group I winners Coil and Chiropractor.

Mark Newnham did a lot of work with Pierro when he was foreman for Gai Waterhouse and has also had success with him as a sire training his high class son Shadow Hero to win the Group I ATC Spring Champion Stakes and ATC Randwick Guineas, so Bob is certainly in capable hands.
