Hermitage Colours Keep Winning Run Going

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 4

Hermitage Thoroughbreds enjoyed a winning stakes double on Saturday courtesy of Wu Gok and September Run, their easily recognizable dark green and red chevrons colours featuring at Wyong on Thursday when successful in the first race aboard Sebring filly April Thunder.

Trained by Chris Waller, as are their two Saturday stakes-winners (read about them here), April Thunder was stepping out to 1600 metres at her third run back from a spell and relished the opportunity to break her maiden.

She scored by three quarters of a length and can probably get a bit further with maturity.

April Thunder as a yearling

A $120,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Hermitage Thoroughbreds from the Vinery Stud draft, April Thunder is the second winner from Group II placed Kyria, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to Group II winner Always Allison.

She comes from the Mannington branch of the Bint Marscay family that has given us Group I winner Benicio and Group II winner Romneya so there is plenty of depth to her pedigree.

Kyria was bought by Aquis Farm in 2018 for $145,000 at the MM National Sale and has a weanling filly by Jukebox and is in foal to another of the young Aquis sires in Santos.

Sebring must be a favourite now with the Anton Koolman managed Hermitage having given them not only dual Oaks winner Egg Tart, but also Wu Gok, who has won over $670,000 in prizemoney.
