Career Highlight for Love Conquers All's Love You Lucy

Mark Smith - Saturday May 16

Veteran trainer Barry Squair looked battered and bruised in the winner’s circle but there was no wiping the smile of his face after his Love Conquers All mare Love You Lucy delivered him a career highlight in Saturday’s Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast.

Ridden by Mark Du Plessis, Love You Lucy defeated I Am Invincible’s $1.2 million earner Fiesta by a short head with another short neck to the Redoute’s Choice mare Jen Rules in third.

"Lucy dumped me on Tuesday and I hurt my shoulder and wrist. That is it for me as a trackwork rider, my wife has put her foot down,"' Squair told AAP.

"It is the the biggest win of my career as a trainer but I haven't decided where to go next.

"She is a good horse and we will find something extra for her.

"I gave her a real chance today and she will win at further than 1200 metres."

The Goggins family homebred has been a great money spinner for connections.

Love You Lucy’s maiden stakes win advances her record to 7 wins, 5 seconds and a third from 17 starts with earnings of $252,950.

Maryann Goggins had purchased Love You Lucy’s dam Whitechapel for just $3000 from the Lyndhurst Stud draft at the 2013 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

A 2-time winning daughter of the ‘iron horse’ Giant’s Causeway (USA), Whitechapel is one of six winners out of the Group II MVRC Sunline Stakes winner Spurn (Flying Spur).

Whitechapel has an unraced 2yo Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) filly named Bonnie Boru. She was not covered in 2017 and slipped in 2018.

Love You Lucy becomes the fourth stakes-winner for the Mossman stallion Love Conquers All who will stand the 2020 season at Clear Mountain Fairview at a fee of $5,500.
