Magic Millions 2yo Classic heroine Away Game led home a Snitzel 1-2-3 in Saturday’s Group III Widden Stakes (1100m) at Randwick.
Ridden by Tom Marquand for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Away Game carried her top-weight of 57.5 kgs to an impressive all the way win to take her record to three wins from four starts with earnings of $1,652,800.
The Torryburn homebred Centimental was two and a quarter lengths back in second with the $340,000 Snitzel filly Philizzy a half-neck back in third.
A luckless fourth in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes at Sandown at her career debut, Away Game has now reeled off wins in the Listed Calway Gal Stakes at Doomben, the Magic Millions 2yo Classic at the Gold Coast and the Widden Stakes.
”She had to add another string to her bow today because she looked a little lost out in front and he had to give her a little squeeze to cross. And she looked a little lost on the rail because she did not see much of it on the Gold Coast,” Maher said.
“She’s now a dual stakes winner early in her career so she is a valuable little filly and she is enroute to the Golden Slipper. So we will see where she sits after this and we might not see her again until then.”
A glorious mahogany bay, Away Game was a $425,000 purchase by Kerri Radcliffe Bloodstock out of the Mill Park draft at the 2019 Gold Coast Yearling Sale. She is a sister to the talented Modern Wonder the winner of the 2016 SAJC Dequetteville Stakes and was placed in the Group III MVRC Typhoon Tracy Stakes and Group III MRC Thoroughbred Club Stakes.
They are two of the five winners from as many to race out of the stakes-placed Elusive Quality (USA) mare Elusive Wonder who is a half-sister to the Listed BRC McDougall Stakes winner Tantra (Royal Academy) as well as to the dam of Listed winner Oak Park (More Than Ready) from the family of Group 1 ATC Randwick Guineas winner Inference (So You Think).
Segenhoe Stud offered a three-quarter sister to Away Game by Not A Single Doubt at the recent Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale that was purchased by Aquis Farm for $580,000.
Elusive Wonder foaled her eighth consecutive filly on October 12, a daughter of Merchant Navy and was bred back to Fastnet Rock’s champion son.
