First Foal for Diamond Drille

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 29
Popular Sydney owners Greg and Donna Kolivos enjoyed the highs of racing with their champion colt Pierro, but he's not the only Group I winner to carry their easily recognized royal blue colours with the red lightning bolt.

Also providing the Kolivos family with Group I success was former star mare Diamond Drille, who delivered her first foal earlier this month at Newgate Farm. (images by Lisa Grimm)

Not surprisingly, this beautiful filly is sired by reigning Champion Australian First Season Sire Pierro

"Donna and I were incredibly fortunate to race an absolute champion in Pierro. His accomplishments on the track were truly remarkable and it is fabulous to see him get off to such a great start as a stallion," said Greg Kolivos.

"Of course, we have sent Pierro our best mares each year including a number of young Group winners off the track.

Diamond Drille"Diamond Drille is clearly one of the best of these young mares, having won the Group I Queen of the Turf over the famous Randwick mile. To see her and Pierro produce a filly such as this at Newgate is a tremendous thrill and we can only hope she goes on to be half as good as both Mum and Dad were."

A sibling to stakes-winners Madame Pedrille and M'Lady Pedrille, Diamond Drille won five of 18 starts earning just shy of $1million in prizemoney.

The daughter of Al Maher is booked to visit I Am Invincible this spring, an intriguing mating as I Am Invincible is also from the same female family.

Newgate Farm is the proud home to Diamond Drille and all of the Kolivos owned mares.
