Early Days Yet But Five Stallions Crack the $2 Million Barrier

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 2

Just two months of the season down and with the riches of the spring ahead, no less than 18 stallions have hit the $1 million mark and five, I Am Invincible, Pierro, Not A Single Doubt, Exceed And Excel and Fastnet Rock have cracked the $2 million barrier.

Exceed and Excel had a red-letter day at Rosehill Gardens with Bivouac (image Steve Hart ) winning the Group 1 while Standout stayed undefeated when registering his first stakes win in the Listed Heritage Stakes.

High Chaparral (IRE) joined the millionaires club with Stampede winning the Group III Colin Stephen Stakes at Rosehill while Princess Jenni added the Group II Stocks Stakes at Moonee Valley to previous wins in the Group 1 SAJC Schweppes Oaks and Group III MVRC Alexandra Stakes.

Another deceased stallion to hit seven figures was Blackfriars whose son Black Heart Bart who rose like Lazarus to claim the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.

Widden Stud's Nicconi and Zoustar also had a profitable week with the former siring the Group I MVRC Moir Stakes hero Nature Strip while Zoustar's daughter Mizzy kept on her winning way in the Group II Golden Pendant.

Pierro retains his second spot in the premiership and his total of four stakes-winners is only equalled by Exceed And Excel.

Shadow Hero added to his haul with a facile win in the Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill and he has the potential to add to that many fold in the coming weeks.

They are all still chasing I Am Invincible. Yarraman Park Stud's champion son of Invincible Spirit is leading the pack for the number of winners as well as earnings.

His daughter Loving Gaby made a winning seasonal debut in the Group III Scarborough Stakes at Moonee Valley and later in the night another daughter Miss Leonidas defeated all bar Nature Strip in the Group 1 Moir Stakes.
