First Crop Sires Covered as the Babies Step Out on Saturday

First season sires will take centre stage on Saturday when the first stakes races of the season for the babies will be run at Randwick.

The Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington will also be run on Saturday but none of the seven acceptors are by a first season stallion.

Vinery Stud's fleet-footed Exceed And Excel stallion Headwater (image Mark Smith ) has the honour of being the most represented with a runner in the Group III Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) and two in the Group III Breeders' Plate (1000m) at Randwick.


Coolmore's Golden Slipper winner Vancouver (image bottom Mark Smith) has a representative in both the Breeder's Plate and Gimcrack Stakes.

Purchased at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by Darby Racing - who have an uncanny knack of purchasing reasonably priced top-class two-year-olds.

Out of a winning granddaughter of the blue hen Procrastinate, Ashra Jahre showed plenty of zip when placed third in a trial at Randwick on September 23.



Ticket To Ride - Vancouver x Abbey Road by Street Cry

Not offered for sale as a yearling, Ticket To Ride is a homebred for John Camilleri's Fairways Thoroughbreds .

She is the first live foal of the Street Cry (IRE) mare Abbey Road who won a Gosford maiden in a two-start career and is a daughter of that grand racemare Private Steer whose 12 wins included the QTC Stradbroke Handicap, AJC All-Aged Stakes and AJC Doncaster Handicap.

Ticket To Ride won her heat at the official 2yo trials at Randwick on September 23.

 Widden Stud’s lightly raced Exceed And Excel stallion Outreach a brother to ATC Golden Slipper Stakes heroine Overreach and the undefeated Standout has his first runner in Rose Sauvage who was purchased at the Classic Yearling Sale.

 A half-sister to the talented Listed stakes-winner In Good Time (Time Thief), Rose Sauvage finished second in her only trial at Randwick.

Newgate Farm’s masculine I Am Invincible stallion Super One is represented in the Gimcrack by the Clare Cunningham-trained Super One Susie a purchase at the Magic Million Gold Coast.

She is the second foal of her dam who is a half-sister to Group III winner Ulmann (Sebring) and dual Group III winner and promising young sire Mahisara (More Than Ready). 

Super One Susie finished second at Randwick in her only public trial.

Another from the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale , Lamelo is the least expensive purchase in the Gimcrack, which is headed by the $900,000 Magic Millions purchase Barbaric – (I Am Invincible x Mimi Lebrock).

Lamelo is the first foal of the winning Northern Meteor mare Sicilian Miss who is a half-sister to the Group II Wakeful Stakes winner Tiamo Grace (Monaco Consul).

At her only official trial, Lamelo finished second to the More Than Ready (USA) filly Global Quest who opposes her again on Saturday.

Mr Colorful - Headwater x Holder Sunset by Shamardal

Purchased by: George Moore Bloodstock $100,000

Purchased at the Magic Millions Gold Coast, Mr Colorful is the first foal of the 3-time Sydney winning Shamardal (USA) mare Holder Sunset whose stakes-placed dam Montana Sunset (More Than Ready (USA) is a half-sister to Group II AJC Roman Consul Stakes winner and Group 1 placed Montana Flyer (Flying Spur).

Mr Colorful was third in his heat at the Randwick trials.

Purchased at the Gold Coast Magic Millions , this is the third foal of the dam who was a top-class racemare in France where he four wins included the Group II Prix de Malleret at Sain-Cloud.

Postcode finished second in a trial at Randwick, which has been his only public appearance.

While there is no-black-type on offer, Eagle Farm holds two very competitive races for the two year-olds on Saturday.

In the opening race the QTIS 2-Y-O Fillies Plate there are three first crop stallions represented.

Vinery Stud's Group 1 Caulfield Guineas hero Press Statement will be represented by the Greg Hickman-trained filly Press Start who looked smart winning a trial at the Gold Coast.

Bred by China Horse Club and consigned by Sledmere Stud to the Magic Millions , Press Smart was knocked down for $180,000.

Aquis Farm's popular Snitzel stallion Spill The Beans will have his first runner with the Les Ross-trained filly Exposed Secret who was a $22,000 purchase at the Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

Woodside Stud's Rich Enuff was a big hit at the sales and he will have a runner with the Paul Butterworth-trained Hamilton Hill, a $40,000 Gold Coast purchase who showed ability when second in a trial at Eagle Farm.

The QTIS 2-Y-O C&G Plate showcases another from the first crop of Spill The Beans , the Steve O'Dea-trained colt Tumbler Ridge who has had the benefit of two trials, a third at Doomben on September 10 and a win on the same track a fortnight later.
