A
$65,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from the draft of Mill Park Stud for
Sam Freedman and De Burgh Equine, promising staying three year-old Warning
announced himself as a Victoria Derby contender with a strong finishing win in
the Listed VRC Super Impose Stakes.
The Anthony Freedman trained son of Declaration of War (USA) powered home at
his fifth start to win the 1800 metre staying test by two lengths over another
Declaration of War gelding in Independent Road.
"We've always had a reasonably high opinion of him but he's a lazy,
laid-back sort of horse that would improve with the blinkers on," said
Freedman, who was delighted to win the race named in honour of the mighty Super
Impose, who was trained by his brother Lee..
Warning is likely to run in the Caulfield Classic (2000m) on October 19 and
then on to the Victoria Derby if his form continues to improve.
Bred by the Toorak Breeding Partnership, Warning is the second winner from
Livia, a winning Galileo mare from the family of stakes-winners Chattanooga,
Real Stolle and Nomothaj.
He is the 24th stakes-winner for Declaration of War, a former Coolmore shuttler
by War Front that has already sired a Group I winner here in Australia with
Winning Ways landing the Queensland Oaks last season.
