$160,000 Kermadec Colt Kickstarts Karaka Book Two

Media Release - Thursday January 31

Palmerston North trainer Lisa Latta struck early on the first day of New Zealand Bloodstock's Book 2 Sale at Karaka on Thursday.

$160,000 Kermadec coltThe Central Districts horsewoman went to $160,000 to secure lot 755, the Kermadec colt out of Flying Spur mare House of Borgia from Westbury Stud's draft.

It was Latta's biggest purchase of the week at Karaka after she was active in the Book 1 session, signing for three yearlings for a total of $260,000.

"I bought three in Book 1, two fillies, one by Pride of Dubai and the other by Deep Field, and a colt by Zacinto," Latta said.

She was happy with her purchase and said she only had to go a little over her expected price to attain the colt.

"I like the Kermadec's and I just thought he was the pick of them," Latta said.

"We thought he would go for around that price, we expected we would have to go to $150,000 to secure him."

Latta will enter the colt into the Karaka Million series, with an eye more towards the 3YO Classic (1600m) with her new acquisition.

"He strikes me as an Autumn two-year-old and a lovely Two Thousand Guineas type of horse," she said.

"We will put him the series because you have got the three-year-old race as well." – NZ Racing Desk
