Fiorente Surges Through Spring

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 8

Melbourne Cup and Australian Cup winner Fiorente (IRE) has had the sort of spring carnival studmasters dream of,  surging up the Australian Second Season Sires list into second place behind only Zoustar.

Stars of CarrumWith seasonal progeny earnings topping $700,000 and eight individual winners, Fiorente has been powering along in the past month with six winners coming in the last two weeks alone including Spensierato, who won on debut at Pakenham on Thursday.

The headline act for Fiorente has been his top class colt Stars of Carrum, who won the /Group II MVRC Moonee Valley Vase for Robbie Laing and then followed up with a gallant second in the Group I VRC Victoria Derby to Extra Brut.

A $75,000 Inglis Premier purchase for his trainer from the Sun Stud draft, Stars of Carrum has already won over $500,000 and looms as a real staying star of the future.

FiorenteFiorente stands at Sun Stud at a fee of $17,600 and connections have been delighted with the recent success of his progeny on the track and cannot wait to see what is to come for this promising young stallion.

"Breeders have got behind this horse and it's great to see them being rewarded with talented gallopers emerging from his first crop," Mark Lindsay (Sun Stud – Senior Sales and Nominations Manager) said.

"The stallion is already building an impressive team of runners in the early stages of his stud career, with the likes of Stars Of Carrum, Alessandro, Continuation, Fariha, Lord Gladstone, Mangione, Moor Gait, Spensierato , Wham and the exciting Hawkshot (who is back in work with Darren Weir after a minor setback derailed his spring campaign), plus a steady stream of placegetters.

"The fact that Fiorente's progeny are performing so well as early spring three-year-olds is highly promising. With natural progression, it's going to be a really entertaining Autumn!

"The idea of Monsun blood coming out here, I think is the catalyst for the resurrection of breeding staying horses in Australia.”
