Gelding
might be the making of promising Snitzel three year-old Adana, who opened his account
with a late charging win on Wednesday at Warwick Farm.
Placed at three of his previous six starts, the Chris Waller trained Adana was
gelded after finishing third on September 5 at Randwick and returned to competition
today with a new focus.
Ridden quietly by Tommy Berry, Adana came with a late rush to score a long head
win in the 1300 metre maiden.
"Gelding is the last thing owners want to hear with an expensive colt, but it
had to happen and he'll take plenty of improvement out of this run going
forward," said stable representative Charlie Duckworth.
Adana was bought for $1.1 million by Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock from
the Arrowfield draft at Magic Millions and was the most expensive yearling by
his champion sire sold at that sale. He is a full brother to stakes-placed
Bowerman from Sabanci, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to Group I winning sprinter
Green Birdie.
Sabanci was covered again by Snitzel last spring.
