Two $1.4million Colts by Snitzel

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 6

Champion stallion Snitzel is rocking the Inglis sales ring.

Shortly after Go Bloodstock/ Gai Waterhouse and Adrain Bott Racing/ Kestrel Thoroughbreds went to $1.4million for a colt from the top producing Pins mare Purely Spectacular, TFI/Kia-Ora Stud paid the same amount for a brother to Yearning and promising 2yo colt Magic.

Bhima Thoroughbreds consigned the Purely Spectacular colt (lot 369).

He is a three-quarter brother to dual Group 1 winner Stratum Star and Group III winner Prague, who was a $1.6million yearling, and a half-brother to Group III-placed Serenade.

Purely Spectacular is a sister to Listed winner Raid, dam of Listed winner Night Raid.

“He had terrific bone and presence,” Waterhouse said.

uo;Sir Owen (Glenn) asked his racing manager, Steve O’Connor, and Adrian and myself go around the sales and choose two or three outstanding horses.

“The crème de la crème was this colt.

Sir Owen Glenn said it was a search for a potential stallion.

“I’m trying to find the right colt as we have a wonderful stable of broodmares.

“We have shares in various stallions such as Russian Revolution, Merchant Navy etc.

“The holy grail is really finding the next stallion. We have found three that we really like and have purchased all three.”

Arrowfield Stud consigned the brother to Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner Yearning and Group II Silver Slipper Stakes runner-up Magic who sold here last year for $2.5million. (lot 377)

They are out of the Group 1 Australian Oaks heroine Rising Romance.

“What a colt. The cross has already proven with Yearning and Magic,” Kia-Ora Stud’s Shane Wright said.

“Magic has so much potential and the family will keep getting better and better.

“We thought he was an absolute standout He was among two or three colts at the top of our list and they are so hard to come by.

“There was a lot of competition on him, but it was good in a way that all the right people were on him, and it’s good he is coming home with us.”
