Leading
young sire Pierro capped a very successful weekend with a third stakes-winner
on Sunday after Octabello took out the $350,000 Listed Cranbourne Cup.
The Mick Price trained four year-old has been racing consistently this
preparation after being gelded and finished with a well timed run for Noel
Callow to snatch a short neck win in the 2025 metre contest.
It was the fourth win from 13 starts for Octabello, who has earned over
$300,000 in prizemoney.
"He was desperately unlucky the other day at Caulfield (third in the Inglis
Cup), but today he had a beautiful run behind the favourite and got the
chocolates," said Noel Callow.
A $190,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Cornerstone Stud draft for his
trainer, Octabello is the third winner for Charlotte de Belle, a full sister to
dual Group I winner and $1.9 million earner Dash for Cash.
Octabello is the 11th stakes-winner for Pierro, who also had a stakes
double at Randwick on Satruday with Pierata and I Like It Easy.
The champion son of Lonhro stands at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $88,000.
