The
Cranbourne meeting on Sunday features the debut of the most expensive yearling
ever sold in Victoria.
Purchased from the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for $1.4 million by Ciaron
Maher Bloodstock from the Gilgai Farm draft, three year-old I Am Invincible
colt Octane is set to step out in the opening race, a 1000 metre open maiden.
A half-brother to Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap winner The Quarterback and
Group II winner Philippi from top producer Soorena, the good looking colt has
been given time to mature and shown good ability in recent work and jumpouts.
Octane runs for a syndicate that includes his breeder Rick Jamieson of Gilgai
Farm, who retains 30 percent of him as well as Col McKenna who owns stablemate Jameka
that was also bred and sold by Gilgai Farm. Other owners include Geraldine
Straud who is in Combative and The Closer, Ken McDonald, first time owner Gavin
Aikmen and a number of others.
The race jumps at 11.50am.
