On his European form, Jaameh (IRE) looked an unlikely contender to add another chapter to the encyclopedia of stakes-winners descending from Meon Valley Stud's blue-hen Reprocolor, however, he has now won two of his three starts in Australia and David Hayes is beginning to get excited.
A winner at Haydock, Chester and Newmarket in 16 starts when trained by Mark Johnston, Jaameh (IRE) arrived in Australia in January and opened his account at the first time of asking three months later over 2000 metres at Caulfield.
Off the scene for three months the son of Iffraaj finished sixth in a 2000 metre handicap over 2000 metres at Flemington three weeks back.
With Regan Bayliss in the saddle for Saturday's VRC Member Maureen O'Connell Handicap (2510m), Jaameh (IRE) came from last to overpower My Nordic Hero (GB) by two and three-quarter lengths with Kilimanjaro (IRE) a further three lengths back in third. (photo Grant Courtney )
Co-trainer David Hayes said the import needs to qualify for the top handicaps in the spring.
"He will head to The Bart Cummings and get qualified, that is the way we are definitely going to go and there will be a run in between," Hayes said.
"I loved the way he took the extra furlong to pull up, with stayers heading to longer races, I always look at how quickly they stop.
"We were really hopeful today, it ended up a truly-run race, it was a good test I thought it was quite a dominant performance.
"He has got similar formlines to a horse like Tawqeet, who started (Melbourne Cup) favourite one year and won a Caulfield Cup.
"I think he has improved out here, with a bit of sun on his back he's found a length or two."
A son of the merging influence Iffraaj (GB), Jaameh (IRE) is out of the Rock Of Gibraltar (IRE) mare Miss Gibraltar who is out of the stakes-winning Midyan mare Photogenic who is a half-sister to the champion 2yo filly in Italy in 1999, Croeso Cariad (Most Welcome) and the stakes-winning Giant's Causeway mare Mona Lisa who placed in the Irish Oaks, Prix de l'Opera and Coronation Stakes.
Another half-sister, Flashing Green, is the dam of stakes-winner Tha'ir and Flashing Colour.
Photogenic is out of the Shirley Heights mare Colorsnap, herself a daughter of the Weinfeld family's remarkable produced Reprocolor the dam of five stakes-winners headed by the 1994 Irish Champion Stakes winner Cezanne.
But it was Reprocolor's Group winning daughters Bella Colora and Colorspin that continued the dynasty.
Colorspin won the Irish Oaks and Bella Colora the Prix de l'Opera.
Colorspin produced Group I winners Opera House, Kayf Tara, and Zee Zee Top, while Bella Colora's four stakes winners include the multiple Group II winner Stagecraft and Dahlia Stakes winner Balalaika
