A
year after $20,000 cheapie She Will Reign walked away with the Golden Slipper,
the top end of town have a better hand this time but the cheapies won't be
giving it up lightly in this weekend's running of the world's richest two-year-old
race.
17 of the 20 acceptors were offered at yearling sales with seven of them making
more than $400,000 headed by the $1.7 million Snitzel filly Estijaab, the equal
highest priced yearling by her sire last year.
She's one of three Snitzel's set to line up with the other two, Sandbar (650k)
and Prairie Fire (625k) also costing a pretty penny, so while they cost plenty
these days, the Snitzel breed can certainly deliver in giving you a shot at the
big bucks early.
At the "affordable" end of the scale, Sizzling filly Sizzling Belle at $50,000
is the cheapest, and at $71 in the current markets that fairytale has a mountain
to climb however Ef Troop and Seabrook look genuine hopes of a fairytale result
for the affordable brigade.
Seabrook is coming off a win in the Sweet Embrace Stakes as her final lead up
and Ef Troop is coming off a close second in the Todman Stakes.
