Too Darn Hot Running Hot at Canterbury

Mark Smith - Friday November 15

A competitive 1350m maiden for 3-year-olds to start the Canterbury night series with an impressive winner in Scorching Legend, who came with a barnstorming finish from last.

Ridden by Sam Clipperton for Les Bridge, the son of Too Darn Hot (GB) still had all eight rivals ahead of him at the 200m before unleashing down the centre of the track to defeat the Toronado (IRE) gelding Call Me Mojo with the Blue Point (IRE) gelding Point And Shoot back in third.

Scorching Legend appeared for the first time since finishing unplaced in two starts on heavy tracks in June.

“He finished off very impressively,” Clipperton said.

“Credit to Les and his team as last preparation he was showing good speed. Les instructed me to put him to sleep as he had been getting home nicely in his trials.

Scorching Legend a $280,000 Inglis Classic yearling

“He jumped well, but I just left him alone. The pace was fast, so I let him float around.

“He didn’t appreciate the heavy tracks last preparation, but he has furnished and matured and will have no worries going through the grades.

A $280,000 purchase for Bon Ho’s Legend Racing from the HP Thoroughbreds draft at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Scorching Legend is the sixth winner for the Excites mare Sexy Siren, a daughter of the stakes-placed Grosvenor mare Siren Songs.

Lees Racing purchased Sexy Siren’s Justify (USA) colt for $170,000 at the 2024 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Scorching Legend is the 16th 3-year-old winner of the season for Too Darn Hot (GB). It quickly became 17 when the Craig Carmody-trained filly Zan opened her winning account over 1550m at Canterbury.
