Karaka Millions Opportunities Aplenty in Ready to Run Sale Catalogue

Media Release - Thursday November 14

The quality on offer in the 404-lot strong catalogue of NZB’s 2024 Ready to Run Sale due to kick off next week, is further boosted by the eligibility of 28 Karaka Millions nominated lots on offer.

Those Karaka Million eligible horses have the opportunity to race for $1m in the TAB Karaka Million 2YO (1200m) in 2025, plus $1.5m in the TAB Karaka Millions 3YO (1600m) in 2026. Plus, in a recent initiative supported by Entain and NZTR, there is $1m in bonuses up for grabs across 40 maiden races each season as part of the NZB Mega Maiden Series

Lot 317, Wootton Bassett (GB) colt from G1 winner Charmont.

New Zealand agent Chris Rutten, who is familiar with selecting a Karaka Millions winner, says the eligibility is an extra drawcard to view each horse.

“It’s an extra box ticked for clients.”

“This Sale often has quick returns on the racetrack and with the value of the Karaka Millions Series having gone up so significantly recently, that KM icon means more now than ever.”

“It is a race we all want to win, and the new NZB Mega Maiden bonuses make it even better again.”

Horses eligible for the Karaka Millions Series in the 2024 Ready to Run Sale are denoted on the bottom of their catalogue page with the ‘KM’ logo.

The 2024 TAB Karaka Millions Raceday will take place at Ellerslie Racecourse on Saturday 25 January, the eve of NZB’s Karaka 2025 National Yearling Sales Series.

It is also worth noting the two-year-olds catalogued in the upcoming Ready to Run Sale that are eligible for other bonus schemes such as Entain-NZB Insurance Pearl Series (11), BOBS (104), QTIS (12), VOBIS Silver (12) and VOBIS Sires (32).

All horses purchased at the 2024 Ready to Run Sale will also be eligible for the 2026 edition of the NZB Kiwi race (1500m). Boasted as the Southern Hemisphere’s richest three-year-old race worth $4.5 million, the first edition of the slot race will take place at Ellerslie on 8 March 2025 as part of Champions Raceday.
