Justify Filly Sweet Justice Breaks the Ice

Mark Smith - Thursday September 26

Well fancied when disappointing on debut at Cranbourne on September 5, the 3-year-old Justify (USA) filly Sweet Justice proved that form all wrong when breaking her maiden in style in the DMB Contracting Maiden Plate (1447m) at Geelong.

Ridden by Michael Dee for Ben, Will, and JD Hayes, Sweet Justice came with a sweeping run from near the tail of the field to defeat The Autumn Sun debutant Sephia by a long-neck with Godolphin’s Street Boss (USA) filly Medici a head back in third.

“It worked out perfectly today. She did not get the best ride the other day when she got it all wrong,” stable representative Will Evans said.

“It was great that the pace was on today, and it suited her to race like her trials. She got a bit fierce the other day and settled well today. She was strong late, so onwards and upwards.”

The Rupert Legh colours must be the most photographic set of silks lately, and Sweet Justice has continued the run.

The Coolmore bred daughter of Justify (USA) was a $160,000 purchase for Lindsay Park Racing from the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

A half-sister to Group III-placed  Sweet Rockette (Fastnet Rock), Sweet Justice is the sixth winner from as many to race for the former top-class racemare Sweet Sanette (SAF).

A Group III winner in South Africa and multiple winner in Hong Kong, the daughter of Jallad finished third behind Prohibit and Star Witness in the Group 1 King Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Sweet Sanette (SAF) did not have a live foal in three seasons after Sweet Justice. Covered by Best Of Bordeaux last spring, Sweet Sanette (SAF) died on August 30.
