It’s hard to believe this So You Think filly has taken so long to break her maiden, but the well-bred three year-old will end the season a winner after romping in at her first run back from a spell at Newcastle on Tuesday.
Trained by Chris Waller, Mountain Top lacked strength in previous preps, notably last year when finishing fourth and third at her last two runs in metro maidens in November and December before heading for a lengthy spell.
Tuned up with a couple of recent trials, it was a new look Mountain Top that went around in the 1200m maiden and she blitzed the opposition with Lee Magorrian in the saddle dashing clear to win by more than three lengths.
A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Fairview Park for Phil Cataldo Bloodstock, Mountain Top runs for a partnership that includes Tony Muollo and his family with her breeder Frank Cook of Mystery downs retaining an interest.
Mountain Top is the third winner from Mount Omei, a winning Fastnet Rock mare from the family of Cox Plate winning champion sire Savabeel.
Mountain Top has the pedigree to suggest there is more in store so will be worth following into town.
So You Think has sired 126 winners this season of over $20million in prizemoney and stands at a fee of $77,000.
