One to Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 10
Aquis Farm's Dream Ahead (USA) gave us the 'One to Watch' on Wednesday when this beautifully bred filly scored a debut victory for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable.

Dream AheadWith seven previous barrier trials under her belt, three year-old Shumookh was certainly well educated for her first outing and that paid off as the filly led throughout and cantered clear to win the 1250 metre maiden by two and a quarter lengths.

A homebred for Emirates Park, Shumookh is a half-sister to Group II placed Shahad and is the sixth winner from six foals to race from the former Waterhouse trained star filly Shamekha.

By her Doncaster Handicap winner Secret Savings (USA), Shamekha was an outstanding filly whose Group I wins came in the AJC TJ Smith Stakes, All Aged Stakes and STC Coolmore Classic.

Shamekha has a yearling filly by Snitzel and was covered last spring by Pride of Dubai.

Dream Ahead covered 107 mares at Aquis Farm in the Hunter Valley last spring and had one yearling sell at the Magic Millions today for $150,000.

Consigned for sale by Aquis Farm, the half-sister to Group II winner One More Honey from One Funny Honey (USA) was bought by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock.
