Pierro enjoyed a winning double at Randwick on Saturday with victory for progressive filly Bright Red and stakes performer War Eternal, who clocked up over $500,000 in prizemoney with his latest success.
Trained by Chris Waller, Bright Red kept the winning run going for Debbie Kepitis and Woppitt Bloodstock when she scored by a neck in the Benchmark78 event over 1600m.
Unplaced at her previous run over 1800m, she appreciated the shorter trip to get back to winning form with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.
“The 1800 was probably a stretch too far last start as she didn’t really switch off, but back to the mile and down in weight with a great ride from Kerrin she was very strong late,” said stable representative Damien Fitton.
Yet another successful racehorse foaled and raised at Coolmore for Kepitis and her family, Bright Red made it three wins this year with earnings topping $245,000.
Bright Red is the second winner from Group III placed Redoute’s Choice mare All Cerise, a half-sister to Group I winner Mission Critical and Group II winner Brilliant Light.
All Cerise delivered a colt last year by Yes Yes Yes and is in foal to Wootton Bassett (GB).
Ringing up the double for Pierro was the Bjorn Baker trained War Eternal, who was fit and ready to fire at his third run back from a spell.
Group placed earlier in his career, War Eternal did best in a thriller to win the Benchmark 78 over 1400m by a head taking his overall record to three wins and five placings from 21 starts with prizemoney topping $511,000.
Pierro has sired over 100 winners this season of $7.7million in prizemoney and stands at Coolmore at a fee of $55,000.
