Watch My Girl a Promising Staying Prospect for Maurice

Mark Smith - Thursday May 23

The Gall family has a promising staying prospect in the 3-year-old Maurice (JPN) filly Watch My Girl, who snapped a run of four minor placings in the  Pioneer Services Midway Hcp (1600m) at Hawkesbury.

Ridden by Christin Reith for Ron Quinton, Watch My Girl led at every call to defeat the 4-year-old Sebring gelding Twin Turbo by four lengths, with the 4-year-old Fastnet Rock gelding Rico Suave in third.

Watch My Girl has placed at Necastle (x2), Gosford and Kembla Grange since winning a super maiden at Gosford last December.

There was a delay at the start due to problems with the finishing camera and Ron Quinton said it may have proved a blessing.

“She was quite difficult to saddle. When she got in the parade ring, she settled down, and I think the delay might have even helped her,” Quinton revealed. We got the desired result, and it looked promising for the future.

“If we can calm her down, she’ll be a lovely filly.

“Christian summed it up well. He has good hands and got her to relax, so she darted away.

“We will see what races are available and work it out as we go.”

Gall Bloodstock and Peter Morgan had the final say at $425,000 for the grey daughter of Maurice, which Arrowfield Stud consigned to the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
