One to Watch – Werribee

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 6

The Autumn Sun has been doing some exciting things of late with his three year-old filles and gave us a One to Watch on Monday when another of them opened her account at Werribee.

The Autumn Sun has sired three G1 winning fillies in three weeks with Autumn Angel winning the ATC Australian Oaks, Vibrant Sun winning the SAJC Australasian Oaks and Coco Sun winning the SAJC SA Derby with the Anthony and Sam Freedman trained Ella’s World looking a bright prospect for the future.

Lining up in a 1600m maiden at her second start, Ella’s World looked a class above in the mounting yard and delivered on track powering to the line to win surging away to win by a space eased down.

“She’s a daughter of The Autumn Sun that has progressed a lot in the last six months,” said Sam Freedman.

“She wasn’t impressing us early days, but much like a lot of his fillies have done, they improve and the nice fillies races have probably come up a bit soon for her, but we have full confidence she’ll run further than this and she showed a nice turn of foot there late.”

Queensland may be an option for Ella’s World, although there is no rush with this filly, who has needed time to mentally mature.

“The boss is up there (Queensland), so am expecting a call to try and get her up there at some point, but she has taken really good steps forward since her first run and it’s pleasing to see her so well behaved behind the gates as we have had a few issues with her there.

“The whole staff and all the crew at home have done a terrific job with her as she takes a bit of managing and mentally she can switch on a bit at times. Sheriff (Iskander) and Suman (Hedge) have shown plenty of patience and hopefully she can continue to progress.”

Ella's World was a $550,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

A $550,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Suman Hedge Bloodstock from the Arrowfield draft, Ella’s World runs in the Iskander Bloodstock colours and is a three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Petronius, plus Group placed Raphael’s Cat and Tale of Choice and half-sister to Group placed Port Louis.

Lime Country Thoroughbreds will offer Tale of Choice at the Inglis Broodmare Sale on Friday as Lot 292.

Ella’s World is the seventh winner from nine to race from imported Tale of the Cat Group II winner Cat by the Tale (USA), who has a two year-old colt by The Autumn Sun that made $200,000 at Inglis Easter 2023 and a yearling filly also by The Autumn Sun that made $150,000 at Inglis Easter this year.

Ella’s World was not the only smart winner by The Autumn sun on Monday with the Annabel Neasham trained three year-old filly Autumn Miss opening her account at Ipswich over a mile.
