Metro Double Adds to Pierro Winning Run

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 16

With six winners in the past two days, Pierro is in hot form and had a winning double at Caulfield on Saturday courtesy of Pascero and Regal Power.

Winner of the Group I WATC Railway Stakes in Perth in 2019 and the $5million MRC All Star Mile in 2020, Regal Power is still going strong as an eight year-old and scored by two lengths in the Benchmark 100 event over 2400m carrying 58kg.

A homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters now trained by John Leek Hr, Regal Power has won 10 of 40 starts earning over $4.8million.

Regal Power is a full brother to Group II WATC Derby winner Power and is a brother-in-blood to triple Group I winner Arcadia Queen, so it is not surprising that his dam Broadway Belle has been married to Pierro in recent years and she produced a filly by him this spring.

Making it a double for Pierro was the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young trained Pascero, who was a dominant winner in the open handicap over 1400m taking his overall record to six wins from 22 starts with prizemoney topping $500,000.

“He’s got an awful habit of being slow out and that puts you on the backfoot tactically, especially in a race like today that looked like it would be controlled by Dubai Poet,” said winning rider Daniel Moor.

“He’s got good ability thought and he’s a nice horse when he puts it altogether.”

Bred and offered for sale by Blue Gum Farm, Pascero was a $575,000 Inglis Premier purchase for First Light Racing / Busuttin Racing / Paul Willetts Bloodstock making him the most expensive Pierro colt sold in Australia in 2020.

He is a half-brother to stakes-winner Express Pass and is the fourth winner from five to race from good producer Pass the Parcel, a winning More Than Ready (USA) mare from the family of Group I winners Kementari and Sterling City.

Pierro has 21 entries for the upcoming Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
