Zoustar Filly Wins G3 Red Roses

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 9

Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar got his second Group winner at Flemington in Cup Week when talented filly Mumbai Muse surged to the line out wide to win the $300,000 Group III VRC Red Roses Stakes (1200m) with her ears pricked.

Trained by Michael Freedman, Mumbai Muse broke her maiden last start with a stakes win in the Listed ATC Sir Brian Crowley Stakes and kept up the good work in her first run outside of NSW.

Allowed to find her feet early by Tommy Berry she powered to the line down the outside fence to win by half a length sporting the Woppitt Bloodstock colours carried to victory in the Group I VRC Victoria Derby on Saturday by Riff Rocket.

“She’s had a terrific preparation and mixed it with the best fillies up in Sydney at her first two starts back and beat the colts in the Brian Crowley and then has picked up a very nice race today,” said Michael Freedman.

“She’ll go to the paddock now for a little break and then we’ll have a think about what we target with her. I think she is probably a sprinting type filly, so it might be worth bringing her back down here for something else up the straight.”

Mumbai Muse was a $525,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft for Michael Freedman Racing / Julian Blaxland Bloodstock and runs for Woppitt Bloodstock and partners that include Robert McClure of Morning Rise Stud, who bred the filly.

Mumbai Muse has gotten the taste for winning and looks set for a very good season with her overall record now two wins and two placings from seven starts with prizemoney topping $380,000.

Mumbai Muse was a $525,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

She is a half-sister to stakes-winner Jazz Etude and stakes-placed Mumbai Jewel and Splendoronthegrass being the second stakes-winner among four winners from Mumbai Rock, a winning Fastnet Rock daughter of US Group I winner Mani Bhavan (USA).

Mumbai Rock was a $1.55million Inglis Easter yearling back in 2013 and while her racetrack success was limited, she has certainly been a great producer.

Morning Rise Stud sold the full brother to Mumbai Muse at Inglis Premier this year for $250,000 to China Horse Club / Newgate / Go Bloodstock / Trilogy and he has been named Bengal with Chris Waller to train.

Mumbai Rock has a yearling filly by I Am Invincible and has foaled this spring producing a colt by Home Affairs.
