Trained
in the UK by Mark Johnston, consistent three year-old filly Peach Melba ventured
to Germany over the weekend to win the Listed Grosser Preis des Gestut Haus
Zoppenbroich at Hanover giving her sire Dream Ahead (USA)
a new stakes-winner.
An easy last start winner at Newmarket, she continued her good form in the 1600
metre Listed contest to score a length and a half win with Franny Norton in the
saddle.
Peach Melba has the overall record of five wins and seven placings from 14
starts, so has rarely missed a place.
A half-sister to two stakes-placed horses, she is the best of four winners from
Nellie Melba, who is interestingly sired by Australian bred Hurricane Sky, a
close relation to champion sire Redoute’s Choice.
Dream Ahead has established a very successful nick with daughters of Redoute’s
Choice producing four winners from four runners, three of those winners being
stakes-winners Dreams Aplenty and Generalissimo (both Group III winners) and
Awaken.
Later
in the day, two year-old colt Gold Tail landed the Listed Premio Divino Amore over
1000 metres at Capannelle in Italy to give Dream Ahead a stakes double
Peach Melba and Gold Tail are the 13th and 14thstakes-winners for Dream Ahead, who stands at Aquis Farm at Murrurrundi at a
fee of $19,800.
