Karaka Select Sale Graduate Wins Sha Tin Trophy

Media Release - Monday October 23

Karaka graduate Beauty Generation (NZ) (Road to Rock) continued his rich vein of form in Hong Kong on Sunday, picking up his second feature-race win in three weeks in the HK$4 million Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy (1600m).

Beauty GenerationAfter leading all the way to win the Celebration Cup (1400m) on October 1, the five-year-old gelding trailed the leader in Sunday's race before capitalising when the pace slackened approaching the home turn. He fought strongly down the straight to hold out his stablemateBooming Delight(Fastnet Rock) by a head.

"The winner is a model of consistency, he had a perfect draw today," trainer John Moore said. "We were hoping to lead but when Winner's Way pressed on, Derek (Leung) went for Plan B – drop back and sit outside the leader. He's hit the line well and just prevailed."

Now the winner of four of his nine Hong Kong appearances, Beauty Generation has earned more than HK$10 million in prize-money to go with the A$322,000 he picked up in seven Australian starts – which included placings in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas and Group 2 Hobartville Stakes under his previous name Montaigne.

Beauty Generation was bred by Nearco Stud and was offered by Highden Park at the 2014 Select Sale, where New South Wales' Hermes Syndications bought him for $60,000.
