Karaka Bargain Wins Singapore Group One

Media Release - Monday October 23

Gilt Complex (NZ) (Gold Centre), who cost just $10,000 at the 2013 Festival Sale at Karaka, landed one of Singapore racing's greatest prizes in Sunday's S$700,000 Raffles Cup (1800m) at Kranji.

Gilt Complex wins the Raffles CupCarrying the colours of former champion Singapore galloper Spalato(NZ) (Elusive City), the six-year-old tracked the leader for most of the race before rider A'Isisuhairi 'Harry' Kasim made his move at the home turn.

Gilt Complex pounced and kicked away, racing to victory by a length and three-quarters over his Cliff Brown-trained stablemate Elite Excalibur (Fastnet Rock).

"I thought his barrier trial on Tuesday was very good. He appreciated the track today," Brown said. "I always thought he (Gilt Complex) was more of a Gold Cup horse, and he is definitely a Gold Cup horse now."

The S$1.35 million Dester Singapore Gold Cup (2200m) will be held on November 12.

Gilt Complex has now had 25 starts for seven wins, seven placings and almost S$800,000 in prizemoney – 84 times his purchase price.
