Boss appeals severity of Riven Light penalty

Brad Waters - Tuesday October 17

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Glen Boss has lodged an appeal against the severity of the penalty he incurred for careless riding suspension in last Saturday's Group I Ladbrokes Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield.

The Singapore-based Boss was suspended for 10 meetings after he pleaded guilty to causing interference aboard Irish galloper Riven Light approaching the 200m of the weight-for-age contest.

Stewards told Boss that his explanation of the incident that resulted in Hartnell and Calderon to be among those severely hampered was the reason they viewed the incident in the mid-range of severity instead of the high-range.

However, Boss will take his case to the RAD Board on Wednesday at 10am.

Boss's suspension was set to run after he completed his commitments in Singapore last Sunday until midnight on Tuesday week.

Boss did not request a stay of proceedings.
