Shalaa Filly Chilled Captures Without Fear Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday May 6

The talented Matt Laurie-trained filly Chilled continued the winning run of Woodside Park Stud’s new resident Shalaa (IRE) with a fighting win in Saturday’ Listed Without Fear Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.

Ridden by Michael Dee, Chilled defeated the determined Exceed And Excel filly Iphimedia by a long neck, with the Deep Field filly Down Low three and a half lengths back in third.

Never off the board in five starts, Chilled advances her record to two wins, a second, and two thirds from five starts with earnings of $127,170.

For a lightly raced two-year-old, Chilled has covered plenty of ground. as noted by Michael Dee.

“She’s been to the Sunshine Coast, Sydney over here, back home and over here again. She is doing an amazing job, and I think she loves it,” Dee said.

“I thought that coming back in trip would be ideal for her. She was there to win last start and found 1200m a little too far.

“She did want to overdo it, but she pinned her ears back and had a crack.”

Chilled a $125,000 Magic Millions yearling

A $125,000 purchase for Snippets Racing Syndications/Peter Morgan/Matt Laurie Racing from the Valiant Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Chilled is the first foal of the Pierro mare Sauvignon, whose dam is a three-quarter sister to Catchy.

Unplaced in two starts, Sauvignon was a $40,000 buy for Valiant Stud from the Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2020 National Broodmare Sale when carrying Chilled.

Proven Thoroughbreds / Kerry Parker Racing had the final say at $45,000 for Sauvignon’s So You Think colt at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

After foaling a colt by Farnan last spring, Sauvignon was covered again by Kia Ora Stud’s Golden Slipper winner.

Chilled is the 15th stakes-winner for Shalaa (IRE), who will stand at Woodside Park Stud for a fee of $22,000 in 2023.
