One to Watch – Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 21

John Sargent has a happy knack for developing staying fillies with Oaks potential and a maiden winner at Newcastle on Tuesday by legendary sire Deep Impact fits the profile.

Three year-old filly Jolted has been gradually stepped up in distance this preparation and went out favourite for the 2100m maiden after finishing fourth at her two previous starts.

She settled on the fence for Tom Sherry enjoying a lovely run in transit and when a gap appeared after turning for home she surged through to take the lead winning by a length at her fifth start.

Jolted was a $900,000 Inglis Easter yearling purchase.

A $900,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock, Jolted runs for her co-breeder Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing.

Conceived in Japan, she is the first foal from Group I SAJC Schweppes Oaks winner Abbey Marie, a full sister to Group I ATC Australian Oaks winner Absolutely from the family of dual Group I winning mare Nettoyer.

Deep Impact has a near perfect record with daughters of Redoute’s Choice producing eight winners from nine starters headed by recently retired Group I winner Profondo and the Japanese bred and trained Satono Arthur.

The only non-winner is this season’s Group II placed three year-old filly As Time Goes By, who is well overdue to break her maiden and holds an entry for the Group I ATC Australian Oaks as does Jolted.

Arrowfield Stud will offer the current yearling from Abbey Marie, a filly by Pierro, as Lot 6 at Inglis Easter.
