21st Stakes-Winner for Shamus Award

The Listed SAJC Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Adelaide Cup Day provided a new stakes-winner for Shamus Award with consistent mare Another Award claiming her first Black Type victory.

Trained by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Another Award was just behind the place-getters in several Group races for mares in Melbourne last spring after finishing fourth to Snapdancer in the Group I SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes last May.

Second up from a spell in this event, she was well ridden by Jason Holder charging home from off the pace with a well timed run to win running away by more than a length.

 

“I was very confident at the 600m, I thought if she doesn’t win today, I’ve done my job and it’s up to you now little girl… I didn’t even have to hit her, she was doing her best hands and heels,” said Jason Holder.

Another Award has the overall record of seven wins and eight placings from 29 starts with prizemoney in excess of $420,000.

Another Award was a $150,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase.

A $150,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase for her trainers from the Willow Grove Stud draft, Another Award was bred by Willow Grove’s Ralph Satchell, who retains a share in her ownership.

She is a half-sister to Group III winner Tequila Time and stakes-winner Inner Warrior being the third stakes-winner among five winners from top producing Encosta de Lago mare El Milagro.

Shamus Award

Another Award is the 21st stakes-winner for Rosemont Stud’s Cox Plate winner Shamus Award, who had a big fee increase last year to $88,000 and covered 137 mares.
